Meet Shira

When you meet Shira at Wear Gloves, you’ll quickly notice her joy. She loves people from all walks of life, young and old, healthy and struggling, and her favorite part of her role is making others smile. “If I can do that on a daily or weekly basis, it makes my day,” she says.

Shira’s journey to Wear Gloves wasn’t easy. A few years ago, after moving back to Florida from Texas, she faced a season of profound loss. Within just 30 days, she lost both her mother and her older daughter. Grief, paired with other challenges, eventually led her to staying at the Salvation Army shelter. Yet even in that difficult time, Shira held on to hope, reminding herself that “there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.”

Her connection to Wear Gloves began with working just one day a week, then two. Soon she was working a full week, serving faithfully and learning as she went. She was first promoted to assistant and then, not long after, became the warehouse manager for our Dignity Center. Today, she is not only a leader, but also serves on the Wear Gloves Board of Directors, lending her voice, experience, and compassion to help shape the future of our mission.

When asked why she stays at Wear Gloves, her answer came quickly and confidently: “I stay because of the environment and people. I knew there was a different calling here for me.” What stands out most to her is the culture of care she has found: “They care. There is a love on this campus.”

Now, as she reflects on her journey, she offers encouragement to anyone who may be struggling: “It does get better.”

Shira continues to inspire our team and community daily, creating that “light at the end of the tunnel” for others while also enjoying life as a proud grandmother and aunt. She’s also considering going back to school.

If you ever need a reminder that hope and healing are possible, come spend some time with Shira. She’ll show you, with her words and with her life, that it truly does get better.
